Catherine S. Simmons, 85, of Franklin, W.Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at her home.

Mrs. Simmons was born Aug. 8, 1919, in Ziegler, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Green Sponaugle and Fannie Bland Sponaugle.

She was employed at Simmons Cleaners and the Franklin Meat Market. She was a cook at Franklin Elementary School and Pendleton Senior & Family Services. She was a member of the Franklin BPW and the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren, where she was active in the Ladies? Aid Society.

On June 15, 1939, she married Olin B. Simmons, who preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1966.

She is survived by four daughters, Hester, Janet, Joie and Bettie. a son Jeffrey. Two sisters, Elizabeth Ritchie of Harrisonburg and Rhea Simmons of Franklin, W. Va.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. 

Pastors Dan Ludwick and Shyrl Smith will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin, W. Va.

Friends may call at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, W. Va., where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren.
