Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center with the Rev. Michael Stockmeyer officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in rural Monroe.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Walter was born Oct. 21, 1925, to Anna Bruhn at their rural Monroe home. He was baptized and later confirmed as a Lutheran. At six months of age he moved with his mother and grandparents to the family farm south of Platte Center. He attended Platte County District #11 grade school and Kramer High School in Columbus through his sophomore year. On June 19, 1947, Walter married Violet Bethine Keeler at Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center. They lived on the family farm until 2001 when they moved into Columbus. Walter farmed and worked for 19 years worked with the Platte Center Coop until his retirement. He was one of the founding fathers of Lakeview High School, serving as their first school board president. He was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as an elder and various other church positions.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Violet; son: Leon (Donna) Bruhn of Lincoln; daughter: Nadine (Roger) Cattau of Creston; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kevin (Jeanne) Cattau Jordan, Ashley, Dylan, Christian and Kayleigh of Norfolk, Leslie (Karl Gack) Schmidt, Brooke Miller, Morgan and Madison Gack of Schuyler, Ryan (Jenna) Cattau of Rising City, Scott Bruhn of Bellevue, Austin of Columbus, B.J and Mike Bruhn of Lincoln.
