Velma Areline (Bjerk) Sundermann, 83, passed away February 4, 2011 at Good Samaritan Village. She was born February 3, 1928 in Sioux Falls, SD to Edwin and Mabel (Gilbertson) Bjerk. On June 8, 1946 she was united in marriage with Robert Sundermann . Prior to having five daughters, Velma worked at Metz Bakery and Penneys. In 1975 she accepted a position at Sioux Valley Hospital and retired in 1990 Intensive Care Nursery Ward Secretary.
Velma is survived by her five daughters; Janice (Harlan) Ordal, Colton, SD; Jackie(Roger) Sunde, Corona, CA; Sue (Steve) Sakry, Stafford, VA, Jo (Ron) Johnson, Bryant, SD, and Shari ( Rick) Palmer, Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents Edwin and Mabel Bjerk; four brothers, Lyle, Edwin Jr., Thomas, and Donald; three grandsons, Christopher and Shane Johnson, and Jordan Ordal, and one great-granddaughter, Hope King.
Public visitation begins at 3:00pm, with the family present from 5-7pm, with a prayer service at 6pm on Wednesday, February 9th at Miller West Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 1 pm on Thursday also at Miller West Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
