Richard D. "Dick" Stalker, 80, of Grand Island died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center. Dick was born on Feb. 13, 1930, at Boone County to Duncan and Ann (Hayes) Stalker.
Dick married Jolene Melchert on Nov. 15, 1991.
Dick was preceded in death by: son, Rick Stalker.
Survivors are: wife, Jolene Stalker; daughter and her partner, Debbie Stalker and Mary Ann Torres of Fresno, Calif.; sons and their spouses, Kelly and Shannon Madden of Greeley, Colo., and Kris and Adrian Madden of Greeley, Colo.; brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Stalker of Grand Island; grandchildren, Rick, Tanner, Riley, Kennedy and Kyah and a host of friends and relatives.
In addition to his son, he was welcomed into heaven by his parents; brother, Peter Stalker; and sisters, Nelly Huseman and Katherine Cuddleford.
Dick was raised on a family farm, attending Boone County Rural School, graduating from Albion High School with the class of 1947. He received his master's degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Dick served his country in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1953, having served on the USS Buck.
Dick was employed by the Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism, director of North Central Court Referral, director of Family Recovery Center and retired as director of the St. Francis Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center.
Dick was proud to have been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 40 years. He was also a member of Resurrection Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling in his motor home and AA camping.
