Edward, the oldest of our grandparents' children, was born in 1903. He was ambitious with a strong sense of responsibility. He left school to work in his father's retail fur store and was largely responsible for its success. However, he felt that his father was treating him unfairly and left home to work in a fur store in Ohio in 1921. He was later transferred to Omaha, Nebraska where he met Emma. However, he delayed marrying her until 1930 when he could afford to surrport her and his mother and younger brother and sisters. Eddie and Emma moved to New Haven, Connecticut where he was manager of the fur department for a large department store. In 1931, Eddie took his wife, his sister Pauline, and his niece Evey on a vacation to visit a friend of the family who lived in the upper Hudson River in northern New York state. While swimming both his sister and the family friend were caught in an undercurrent. Eddie dove into the water to save them. He pulled the friend to safety, but both he and his sister drowned. Eddie was 28 years old, and Pauline was 26. Their bodies were never recovered.

Emma returned to Omaha where her family lived. She never remarried and remained in contact with our family until she died in the 1980s.
