"Bob", Bobby Joe Cummings, formerly of Duncanville, Texas, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 in Wichita Falls. Born April 10, 1927 in Farmersville, Texas, Mr. Cummings was 83. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he worked for Safeway Food Stores for 41 years, starting as a courtesy clerk and retiring as a district manager. He opened Safeway's Houston division in the 1970s, overseeing 12 stores and 700 employees. After retiring from Safeway, Mr. Cummings worked at NationsBank in downtown Dallas, where he organized the bank's repossessed auto auctions, and Heritage Savings & Loan in Duncanville. He was married to Peggy Nemetz Cummings until her death in 1987. He was a member of Muskat Temple, the Shriners and the Masons. His hobbies included antique cars and stained glass. He loved watching his grandsons play Coyote Football. He was a longtime member at First United Methodist Church of Duncanville. Mr. Cummings is preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. and Emma McCrary Cummings, brother, Ray Cummings, and sisters Mildred Greene and Evelyn Harper. He is survived by his son (and wife), Edward F. and Lynn Cummings of Dallas; daughter (and husband) Carolyn Joyce and Dewayne Bell of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Cale Cummings of New York, Brendan (and wife) Sarah Bell of Austin, Andrew (and wife) Kayci Bell of Aledo, and Shea Cummings of Duncanville; four great-grandchildren; and sisters Dorothy Rodden of Denton and Mary Jane Dennison of Florida. Services are 2 p.m. Friday, February 4, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville with private burial at Little Bethel Cemetery. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the devoted staff at the House of Hope and Hospice of Wichita Falls.
