Elizabeth C. Tatum was the fourth child of Luther Judson Tatum and Sarah Buenavista Savage. She married Rufus Clinton Fisher Apr. 14, 1900 and was widowed sometime between June 1925 and June 1926. She and Rufus had 3 sons and 2 daughters.
After the unexpected death of Rufus, Betty never had a home of her own. She moved around among her siblings or children. She had an old suitcase held together by a belt which carried all her belongings. When she decided she was ready to visit someone else, she'd hitch a ride with a good Samaritan or on a milk truck to get to her next stopping place... even into her 70s.
She spent the last 15 months of her life at the home of her daughter, Mary. She was sick and needed care. Her grandson remembers hearing her pray at night for the Lord to take her so she wouldn't have to be a burden. Her prayers were answered when she passed away holding her grandson's hand.
