Ethel Mae Campbell 1908-2010
Funeral services for Ethel Mae Cammpbell, 101, of Monroe City, MO, were held today, Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Monroe City with burial in the Holy Rosary Cemetery. Fr. Don Antweiler, Fr. Bill Flanagan and Deacon Tom Whalen officiated. Garner Funeral Home and Chapel were in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Cammpbell died Saturday at 7:45 p.m., March 20, 2010 at the Monroe City Manor. She was born November 7, 1908 in Indian Creek, MO, the daughter of Clarence E. and Mary Bertha (Birdie) Lovell Hays.
She was married to Robert Emmitt (Bob) Campbell on November 9, 1931, at St. Stephens Church, Indian Creek. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1969.
She is survived by two sons: John C. (Jack) Campbell and wife Phyllis of Monroe City and Joseph H. (Joe) Campbell and wife Diane of Revere, MO; two daughters: Roberta Dodson and husband Harley of Hunnewell and Cecilia Whalen and husband Thomas of Jefferson City; two brothers: Paul Walker and wife Virginia of Monroe City and Thomas E. Hays and wife Jane of Silvas; two sisters: Marcella Hays Kendrick of Shelbina and Julia McCurren and husband Jack of Edina. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepmother Johanna Lillias Hays, four brothers- William T., Harold S., Francis M. and Gerald Pete Hays; two sisters - Mary Bertha Hays and Emma Jo Hays Keller.
She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mrs. Campbell was a 1926 graduate of St. Stephens High School, Indian Creek. She worked for the Henderson Produce Company, Monroe City. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Daughters of Isabella and served as past Presidents and was also a member of the Holy Rosary Altar Society. Ethel was one of the original Board Members of the Monroe City Nutrition Center. She was also a member of the DeMoss Ladies Sunshine Club.
Memorials have been suggested to the Holy Rosary Church, Holy Rosary School or the Monroe City Nutrition Center.
