Arthur C. Geibel, 86, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries assisted living home in Cabot, formerly of Monroe Street and Home Avenue, died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 21, 1918, in Butler, he was the son of Stephen C. and Mary Kirk Geibel.
He was a 1938 graduate of Butler High School and retired in 1997 as a chartered life underwriter for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. after 42 years.
Mr. Geibel was originally a member St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and attended noon Mass at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church for more than 40 years. After his retirement, he joined St. Fidelis Parish in Meridian; and following his move to Cabot, he became a member at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cabot.
He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 866. He belonged to the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus and the 4th Degree Color Corps. He also was a life member of the Butler Elks Lodge 170, a 50-year member of the United Commercial Travelers and a charter member of the R.C. Men's Club in Herman.
He was World War II Army veteran and served in the 156th infantry in Europe. He was a life member of VFW Post 249.
Surviving are his wife; two sons; a daughter; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
GEIBEL - Friends of Arthur C. Geibel, who died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Members of the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 249 Ceremonial Squad.
