Longtime Sonora resident Alice (Campbell) Richards died Saturday at a Santa Maria care home after a short illness. She was 93.
She was born to Aldalphus and Ada Campbell in Confidence. She spent much of her childhood staying in the logging camps during the summer months or at the quartz mine, near Deer Creek, on the south fork of the Tuolumne River. She graduated from Sonora High School as valedictorian of her class. She met her husband, John Denzel Richards, while in high school. They were married on July 29, 1934.

She enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends, reading and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Julianne Richards, of Sacramento, and Susan and Bob Doyle, of Santa Maria; her grandson, Dr. Tim Doyle, Ph.D, of Pullman, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Denzel Richards; and her brothers, William Tex Campbell and Franklin Campbell.
