Ruth Viola (Ward) Freehafer was a homemaker, writer and sometimes poet. Her major work was a biography of R.B. Stewart, Vice President and Treasurer of Purdue University. She wrote numerous articles of a historical nature which were published in newspapers and women's magazines. She wrote the lyrics to "What Makes Indiana Great" as sung by the Purdue University Men's Glee Club.
