Norbert "Bert" or "Nobby" J. Bartlett of Oregon City, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007, of natural causes. He was 83. We will miss our father, husband, mentor and friend.

Norbert was born March 8, 1924, in West Rutland, Vt., the fifth of the 10 children born to Arthur and Rose (LeClerc) Bartlett. Norbert's mom died when he was a teenager, and his father married Albertine who took on the task of raising the Bartlett children. Bert joined the Navy, becoming an electrician's mate third class, serving on the USS Otis in the South Pacific until the end of World War II. Six of his seven brothers served in the Navy as well. His ship docked in Portland on its return to the states. Bert met Eleanor L. Snyder on a bus tour to Timberline Lodge shortly after arriving. Norbert and Eleanor were married June 16, 1946; a union that lasted over 60 years.

Norbert worked as an electrician for Crown Flour Mills in Portland for 12 years, making many life long friends. He then worked at The Wiring Shop in Lake Oswego until retiring in 1986. Bert was a lifetime member of the Milwaukie Elks club and member of the VFW and American Legion. He bowled league at Palisades Bowl and square danced with the Oregon Trailers. He was a friend to all. After retiring, Bert and Eleanor began spending winters in Green Valley, Ariz. Norbert volunteered two days a week at the White Elephant thrift store, and helped neighbors and friends whenever needed. He was loved by many as he brightened most everyone's days.

Norbert is survived by his wife, Eleanor; sons, Gary (Barbara) of Hobe Sound, Fla., and Randy (Susie) of Lake Grove; sisters, Yvette Bouressa and Teresa (Charles) Dankanics; and brothers, George (Julie), Jerome (Margaret), and Albert (Muriel). A service is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 13 at St. John the Apostle Church, 417 Washington Street, Oregon City, 97045, with a reception immediately following.

Norbert is also listed on his parents stone at Sacred Heart Cemetery in West Rutland, Vermont.
