Lester Edward Solberg, 85, Lengby, Minn., died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston, Minn. (Carlin-Hoialmen, Fosston)

Mr. Solberg was born June 27, 1918, in Max, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Lengby. On Oct. 11, 1947, he married Thelma Slabaugh in Crookston, Minn. They farmed near Lengby until 1954, when they moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. They returned to Lengby in 1961. She died in 1996. He worked as a carpenter in the summers for 30 years in Fairbanks, Point Barrow, Nome, Prudhoe Bay, and other areas in Alaska until his retirement in 1980. In 1997 he married Peggy Vasilakes.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Thoreen, Morris, Minn., Lonnie (Richard) Rud, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Debi (Randy) Wentzel, Bemidji, Minn.; a stepson, Michael (Rita) Petrie, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three stepdaughters, Mary (Jim) Petrie Terry, Apple Valley, Minn., Terresa (Mark) Avorio, Chicago Heights, Ill., Lora Petrie, Grand Forks, N.D.; a brother, Russell (Leona) Ness, Baxter, Minn.; a sister, Ariel Larson, Bagley, Minn.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tonight from 5 to 7 in Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Fosston, Minn., and Saturday from 9 to 10 in Fridhem Lutheran Church, Lengby.

Funeral: Saturday at 10 in the church.

Burial: Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery near Lengby.
