Frank Bird Jex, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away September 3, 1996 in Salt Lake City of heart failure.

Born June 12, 1915 in Salt Lake City, the ninth of eleven children, to Heber Charles and Sarah Emeline (Bird) Jex. Married Hermoine Tracy June 12, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Attended LDS High, East High, Brigham Young University, and University of Utah. He was an active member of the Capitol Hill Ward from 1920 to 1996. Enjoyed teaching Sunday School and working in Scouting. Served a mission to the Netherlands from 1935 to 1938. He was an officer in the US Army in World War II. As an OSS officer, he worked with the Dutch underground to liberate Holland.

Dr. Jex received his Ph.D. from the University of Utah in 1949 under Dr. George Pierson. Taught in the Department of Educational Psychology for 31 years. Admired by students and faculty alike for his dynamic personality, infectious smile, and love of teaching. He chose as hisepitaph, "Gladly He Taught." Enjoyed bowling and swimming. His favorite pastime was working out with friends and grandkids at the Deseret Gym. Loved the great out-of-doors and the natural beauty of the West.

Frank's passion for teaching was rivaled only by his love of family. He is survived by his wife, four children, David, Paul, Richard, and Anne (Benson), 10 grandchildren, brother, Victor, and sister, Lois (Bagley).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7, 1996, 12 noon, Capitol Hill Ward (400 North/West Capitol). Friends and family may call one hour prior to services. Extra parking is available at west grounds of State Capitol. Interment will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
