Stella Belle Winn was born in Essex Township, Stark County, Ill., October 18, 1880. She was the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Winn. All her life has been spent in Stark County. Stella was a lover of home and a dutiful child. She possessed a bright mind and eagerly availed herself of every opportunity to improve it. The parents were not slow to see this and at fourteen years of age she was permitted to enter Toulon Academy. Bur the course was not completed. Sickness entered the home and a devoted mother was compelled to claim her daughter’s service in the home. Never did gallant knight or gentler lady respond to duty’s call more faithfully. Meekly forsaking the school work that was so highly prized she became at once the nurse to the invalid mother and the good angel for her brothers and sister. When opportunity offered, she was an active worker in the Sunday school and an attendant at the church services.
About two years ago Stella resumed the school work for a time, but poor health interfered, and thus a second time disappointment came. For nearly a year she has been under the ban of that dread disease that has called so many choice flowers from family gardens.
Even when the body was weakened, Stella was still ready to lend a helping hand. It was her pleasure to be kind. Only last June she entered the house of mourning on an errand of mercy.
Though an intense sufferer no word of complaint was uttered. Her only thought seemed to be to cheer the heavy hearts of the doar ones to whom she had been so faithful. Toward the last, the decline was rapid and the end came November 28, 1899. Truly it may be said, she hath done what she could. The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon by Rev. JH Reynolds.
