~OBITUARY OF WILLIAM A. McPHERSON

Last sad rites for William A. (Bill) McPHERSON, who was instantly killed on April 01, 1951 when an engine exploded at the Santa Fe roundhouse in Canadian, were held at the First Christian Church.

The Rev. Thomas A. Gray, pastor of the church officiated.

The accident occurred about two o’clock in the afternoon. The boiler of the engine was blown entirely through the side of the building. Despite the efforts of the Canadian Fire Department and numerous other volunteer workers and railroad employees, considerable damage was done by the flames, which spread rapidly in the slight wind.

McPHERSON’s body, badly burned, was taken to the Stickley Funeral Home by Stickley ambulance as soon as it could be rescued.

William A. McPHERSON, said to be an oiler at the engine house, had spent most of his life in Canadian.

Mr. McPHERSON was born in Nebraska but had spent most of his life in Canadian. He was 37 years, 7 months, and 8 days old at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, the former Ethel GUFFEY; four children: Darrell Wayne, 13 William Hobson, 9, Clarence Henry, 8, and Frederick Jeston, 3; his father, Fred McPHERSON of Canadian; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Willie SCHAFER of Glazier; and a sister, Mrs. Dell KROUT of Concord, California.

Pallbearers were Otis COOK, Harry MORRIS, D. D. NEIGHBORS, Lewis MATHEWS, Van PETREE, and Glen DEEMER.

Interment was made in the local cemetery under the direction of the Stickley funeral home.
