John "Jack" Harold McDade passed away peacefully early Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at 93 years. Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Rosary: 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Both services will be conducted by his nephew, Monsignor Rex Nicholl of Amarillo. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Jack was born July 8, 1917, in Canyon to Marguerite and Leo McDade and lived his early years in Canyon before moving to Amarillo where he graduated from Amarillo Christ College Catholic High School. After graduation, Jack attended Texas A&M where he studied engineering. He was called to military service and joined the Navy where he served on the USS Saratoga during World War II. After he completed his military obligation, he moved his widowed mother and siblings to San Diego, Calif., where he went to work at Consolidated Vultee. Later he was transferred by the company to Fort Worth, where he met his wife of 63 years, Faye Bramlett. Soon after, Jack was offered a sales position at the Oliver H. Van Horn Company where he became and remained the leading salesman of large industrial equipment which he sold to Bell Helicopter, General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin. He retired from Van Horn after 35 years. Survivors: Wife, Faye; daughter, Marsha Hodges (Jim); grandchildren, Jason (Clarissa), Justin (Kasey), and Meghan Hodges; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Julia and Charlee Joy Hodges; sisters, Phyllis Nicholl of Amarillo and Pat Steiger of Lemon Grove, Calif; brother, Dan McDade of San Diego, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
