Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, he was the youngest of 6 siblings. He served in the Seabees in WWII. He married Helen Carlson in 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa. They had five kids together. Len worked for the same plumbing supply company his whole life, starting as an office boy and ending up as a traveling salesperson. He lived until 1991, dying at age 78.
