Theophile, age 20, enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 5 October 1861 at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was mustered as a Private in Company H, 1st Louisiana Cavalry. He was captured 1 August 1863 in Kentucky. Several records show Halls Gap, TN & Bulls Gap, KY. I believe it was Halls Gap, Kentucky. He was confined first at Kemper Barracks in Cincinnati, Ohio and then received at Camp Chase Prison on 12 August 1863. He was then received at Camp Douglas near Chicago, Illinois on 22 August 1863 where he remained a prisoner until he was discharged on 14 June 1865. Ascension Parish, Louisiana was noted on his discharge paperwork.
