Haydenville, June 26 – Oakley E. Ames, died suddenly in his home, 98 Main St. early this morning. He had worked as usual yesterday. He was born in this town Jan. 8, 1890, son of the late Oakley N. and Ellen Cooley Ames. He spent his entire life in this village. He and Mrs. Ames would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary Sunday. He was a veteran of World War I and employed as a foreman by the Haydenville Co. He would have completed 50 years of service there in December. For 18 years he served on the Board of Selectmen of Williamsburg. Always a sports enthusiast, several years ago he gave to the town the land which is now Ellen Ames Athletic Field. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Church. Besides his wife, Mrs. Mary (Murray) Ames, he leaves one son, Edward J. Ames at home; a brother Albert Ames, of this village; a sister, Mrs. Mary Connell of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be at the home Monday at 8.15, followed by a requiem high mass in St. Mary's Church at 9. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Leeds.
