Died Here Sunday
Funeral services were held this morning at 11 o'clock for Mrs. Mattie L. Ayers, 64, who died at a local hospital Sunday morning at 12:45 o'clock after an illness of one week. Mrs Ayers was a native of Franklin County but had made Athens her home for the past 18 years.
Today's services were held from McDorman-Bridges chapel with the Rev. W.C. Foster, pastor of the Winder Christian church, officiating, assisted by Rev. Newton Saye, pastor of the East Athens Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ayers was a member of the Baptist church and a loyal religious worker.
Serving as pallbearers today were E.M. Epps, Willie Seagraves, L.C. Shiflett, Roy Parr, George Seagraves, Charles Emory Smith, Robert Stone and Billy Bailey.
Mrs. Myers is survived by two daughters, Mrs. W.C. Smith and Mrs. Paul Waggoner, both of Athens, five sons, W.L. and Ralph Ayers of West Palm Beach,Fla.;H.G. Ayers, Crameston, N.C.; Hoyt D. Ayers and Horace Ayers, Athens; her mother Mrs. W.W. Mize; sister Mrs. W.C. Hayes, Bishop; and nine brothers, Ellis Mize, Anderson, SC;Jack Mize, Haleyville, Ala; Jim Mize, Cornelia; Gus, Dee and Robert Mize, Jefferson; Edgar, Walter and Dallas Mize of Athens.
Interment was in Chandler Cemetery near Commerce, Ga., with McDorman-Bridges Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
