Oliver N Draper, 75, died at his home on Washington Avenue Sunday morning after a weeks illness. Mr Draper had been, until a short time before his illness, active as usual but had not been able to do his work for several months.
Funeral services were conducted at the Cookeville Church of Christ Monday afternoon by Elder J Petty Ezell and Dr O H Tallman with burial in the Smyrna cemetery.
He was born November 1, 1857 at Smyrna. When a young man, he united with the Church of Christ.
He was married to Miss Mary Alice Cummins August 25, 1878.
Mr Draper was one of Putnam's most prominent farmers and livestock traders, but in 1910 gave up those activities to become trustee, which office he held until 1914.
Mr Draper resumed his farm and stock activities, continuing them until his death.
He moved to Cookeville from Smyrna in 1910 after his election as trustee, and he spent the rest of his life as a resident of Cookeville.
He is survived by his widow and 4 sons, Amonette, Harvey, Howard and Gilbert Draper.
From England long ago came 3 brothers, James, Phillip and Thomas Draper, to settle in America. James went to Massachusetts, Phillip and Thomas to Virginia, and later Thomas moved to Union, South Carolina. One of his sons, Travis, was the ancestor of Oliver Newton Draper.
