Carl Victor Trued was the son of Nils and Mathilda Walin Trued, pioneers who homesteaded near Ceresco, Nebraska in 1868. He was called "Carl the 12th" by his father as he was the 12th child born in the family.

Carl attended Luther College, in Wahoo, Nebraska, Minnesota College and Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He also studied law at Denver University. He served in the Army. He and two brothers farmed in Tribune, Kansas, raising wheat, cattle and sheep.

In 1942 he moved to Douglas County, Oregon from Kansas with his nephew and wife, Lawrence and Wanda Trued. In 1943, he bought property from Helen and Charles Glenn near Colliding Rivers (the Tom Shrum Donation Claim). He raised cattle, then turkeys. The center of this ranch became the present town of Glide after the bridge was rebuilt and the road changed from following the North Umpqua to running directly east to the Lone Rock Bridge in the late forties (1940s).

In the 1950s he bought another farm near Quincy, Grant County, Washington, where he farmed and raised sheep and also helped the Mel and Pat Glenn Hagood family with their farm. He then moved back to Glide, OR, now a neighbor to Helen Glenn, and worked for her as an appraiser and salesman in her real estate business. He was a charter member of the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roseburg, OR, and a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. His brother and sister-in-law, Ruth and Samuel Clarence Trued, also lived in Roseburg. He did not marry or have children but was part of the families mentioned here.

Carl Trued is buried between his good friends, Barton Helliwell and Helen Glenn.
