Harry Lora Campbell was born in Saguache, CO, one of seven children born to Horace and Mary Alice Curtis Campbell. They were ranchers and Horace was also county treasure. They moved to Roseburg, Oregon in 1898 when Harry was just a baby. They had a homes in Roseburg on West Harvard Avenue and a 1,500-acre ranch at Rice Hill where they ranched.

He was married to Rebecca Gross (1891-1971). They had one son, Robert G. Campbell, born 1917.

Harry Campbell was killed when he was 21 years old in a dynamite accident while working highway construction (Highway I-5) at Rice Hill.

His siblings were: James Perry ("Ped"), Myrtle (Neuner), Frances Ellen (Noland), Cora Alice (Duncan), Paula Mary (Strong) and Helen Curtis (Leake, Glenn).
