WATERBURY — Earsie M. Porter, 74, of Waterbury, departed this life on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011.

She was born Oct. 15, 1936, in Gatesville, N.C., to the late Simon Winborne and the late Ida (Norfleet) Porter. Earsie attended public schools in Gates County. She received her early spiritual learning at Lebanon Grove Baptist Church in Gatesville. Earsie was a member of Zion Baptist Pilgrim Missionary Society and the Zebulun Women's Association of the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention. Earsie held several positions in the work force before retiring from Condor Pacific Industries Inc. in 2000 after over 25 years of service.

She leaves to mourn four daughters, Phyllis Diane (John) Harrison and Elder Iris Denise (Douglas) Porter-Hardy, both of Baton Rouge, La., Jacqueline Porter of Waterbury and Jacqueline Lindsay of Raleigh, N.C., who she raised as her own; three stepchildren, Doreen Parker, Claude Parker Jr. and Melinda Parker, all of Waterbury; two brothers, Curtis Porter of Waterbury and Richard (Evelyn) Porter; and three sisters, Mary (James) Parker, Louise Airline and Linda Parker, all of Gates County, N.C.; two grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by Thomas O. Porter and Jessie E. Porter.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl St., Waterbury. Calling hours will begin at 9 a.m. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
