OBITUARY

Mrs. Alice Myrtle HARRINGTON, 88, mother of Warren HARRINGTON and Miss Martha HARRINGTON of Canadian and a resident of this community for the past thirty-five years, died on December 11, 1955 at her home in Canadian.

Funeral services were conducted from the First Christian Church in Canadian, with Jimmy Mitchell, minister of the local church, in charge of the rites.

Pallbearers were Sam WATERS, Harry HAINES, Tom HILL, Calvert NORRIS, Mike REAGAN and Floyd PYEATT.

Interment was in the Canadian cemetery under the direction of Stickley Funeral Home.

Mrs. HARRINGTON was born in Tioga county, Pennsylvania on February 9, 1867. She was married to Rufus Adelbert HARRINGTON on April 18, 1884. To this union were born eleven children…four daughters and seven sons … nine of whom survive her.

She became a member of the Christian church in New York in 1887.

The family began their westward trek in 1900 when they moved to Mountain Grove, Missouri; and shifted to Oklahoma in 1910, living first near Fairview and then moving in 1916 to Belva, where Mrs. HARRINGTON and three of her children operated a hotel and cafe.

In 1920, Mrs. HARRINGTON and son, Warren and daughter, Martha, came to Canadian. She had made her home in Canadian since that time.

Mrs. HARRINGTON was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star here. She served for many years in Canadian as a practical nurse, until failing health forced her retirement.

Surviving her in addition to the son and daughter here are three other daughters, Mrs. Clyde HULSE of Wellington, Kansas; Mrs. Lewis MARVIS of Amarillo; and Mrs. Jim OWENS of Ramona, Oklahoma; four other sons, Lee HARRINGTON of Vera, Oklahoma; Ervin HARRINGTON of Haines, Oregon; Earl HARRINGTON of Webb City, Missouri; and Roy HARRINGTON of Amarillo; thirty six grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
