Norman Eugene Abney Sr., 92, of Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, in Farmington. Norman was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Pottsville, Ark., the son of John Melvin Abney and Florence Eunice (Garren) Abney.
Norman worked as a machinist for many years. After he retired, he loved gardening.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Case Abney; brother, Avery Earl Abney; and his oldest son, Norman Eugene Abney Jr.
Norman is survived by his son, John Melvin Abney and wife, Roxane, of Farmington; daughters, Patricia Ruth Abney Dixon and Elizabeth Ann Abney Thompson and her husband, Lester; his sister, Anna Mae Abney Groman; 16 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren; many members of his extended family who loved him and many dear friends.
Visitation will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 31, followed at 11 a.m. by funeral services at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington. Joel Sharp will officiate.
Norman will then be laid to rest at Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington.
Pallbearers are his son, John Abney, grandson, Seth Abney, grandson-in-law, Joel Sharp and great-grandson, Shadrach Sharp.
