Opal M. (Hickman) Ford, 88, of Washington, passed away Jan. 27, 2011, at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Henry and Alice Stephens Ware. She had been employed by GC Murphy and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Hickman and David (Debbie) Hickman; two daughters, Thelma Kimes and Sharon (Bud) Seaman; seven grandchildren including one very special granddaughter, Angela, who was inspired to pursue a nursing career and care of Alzheimer's patients because of her grandmother's affliction; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Ed Kimes; three sisters; two brothers; and special friend and roommate for several years, Maddie Robinson.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Keith Hostutler officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
