Earl was the youngest of Fred & Nora (McNamara) Brennecke's three children. He grew up on a farm south of Marshalltown & attended school in Ferguson. He left the farm to go to Marshalltown Junior College & went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1939, with a degree in business administration. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Earl remained a lifelong loyal Hawkeye supporter & fan.

Earl married Jean Annette (Grossman) in 1940. He began his business career in Marshalltown in insurance & real estate. During World War II, Earl served in the Army for 3 1/2 years. After the war, his brother-in-law, Richard C. Grossman, joined him in what became the Brennecke-Grossman Insurance Agency, from which he retired in the mid-1970s. He served on the boards of the Marshalltown Water Works & the Fidelity Bank, later acquired by Brenton Bank & Trust. He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marshalltown.

In retirement, Earl took great pleasure in the care & maintenance of his farm, homestead of the first Brennecke that came to Iowa in 1850. He had many friends which included those in his morning coffee group & in the men's group of the First Presbyterian Church. Earl took a keen interest in his grandchildren, following their growth & development.

Earl is missed by his loving wife, Jean, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage, & their three children Ann (Tulloch), Catherine (Jeffrey) & Thomas + seven grandchildren.

Earl was a kind & good man.
