Mildred O. Abbott, 84, of Palmer died on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul. Mildred was born on Feb. 7, 1926, at Eustis to William and Olive (Williams) White.

Mildred married Oren Abbott on Oct. 21, 1942. He preceded her in death.

Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and LeRoy Zehr and Sandi Schlueter, all of Palmer, and Debra and David Swadley of Creston, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Vern and Wilda White of Cozad.

The family moved to the Cozad area, where she attended school and attended Cozad High School. Mildred and Oren moved in July 1959 to Palmer, where they had a honey bee business for many years. In 1980, they built, owned and operated the Country Package Store until 1988, when they retired due to health reasons.

Mildred loved to baby-sit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She baked many cakes, including her children's and grandchildren's wedding cakes. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, bowling, and she and Oren square danced in their earlier years. Mildred was always one to pitch in and help when someone was in need.

Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church, a permanent member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Jack Schlueter; sister, Opal Koch; and brothers, Faye, Buster, Albert and Lyle White.
