John's Fife family roots established themselves in southwestern PA in the 1700's. His ancesters were closely associated with Bethel Presbyterian Church, Bethel Park, Allegheny Co PA. John was born and spent his early years near Canonsburg, Washington Co PA. He worked for awhile as a laborer for the Montour Railroad Company of Pittsburgh PA before he went out west. John, his wife Nancy, and their first two children moved to CA around 1919.
