CLEARFIELD PROGRESS, Clearfield, PA, Wednesday, November 30, 1916
Thomas M. McKelvey was born in Perry county, Pa., and lived there until he was 17 years old when he voluntarily joined Co A, 76th Pa. Vol. Infantry and served his country until the close of the war. He then came to this section where lumbering was at its height and followed the business for a number of years.

He married Joanna Flegal, daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Flegal of near Morrisdale and settled on a small farm in Bradford township where he followed woods work and trucking. Last June Mrs. McKelvey passed away and the home was broken up and he came to Clearfield to live with his children. He had been in good health until one week ago and was not considered serious until Sunday when he was stricken with pain in his head which brought on unconsciousness and from which he never rallied. Death came at 11:20 Monday night.

The relatives and friends are severely shocked as Mr. McKelvey was a man of strong constitution and very wiry for his age. He was 70 years of age September 23-16.

He had very little book learning in his younger days but acquired a general education and became a fine penman through study and practice in later years. he was a great reader and took much interest in affairs of government.

He is survived by one brother, William McKelvey of Perry county and one sister, Mrs. Brown of Walla Walla, Washington. Also the following children of Clearfield; Ralph H., Scott W., Grant M., Mrs. Wallace Kester and Mrs. Jesse Toot.

Funeral will be held from the home of Jesse Toot on West Front street Thursday at 11 o'clock. Interment in Summit Hill cemetery. Friends will leave the house at 1:30 in autos. Rev. J. W. Long, officiating.
