Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 from 6-8 PM from Banister Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM from Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.

Obituary

Mr. Joel Garnie Hunt, age 87 passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. He was born in Young Harris, GA and had lived in Brandon, MS for the past nine years. He was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, was a huge Braves baseball fan, and loved talking on his ham radio. Mr. Hunt was a corporal in the U S Army serving his country in the Phillipines during WWII. He is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Faye Hunt, three sisters, and one brother. Mr. Hunt is survived by two daughters, Sue McGinley, of Brandon, MS and Cathie Stephens, of Willa Ridge, MO; three grandchildren, Jamie Randle, of Madison, MS, Frank Stephens, of Villa Ridge, MO; and Shannon Moody, of Brandon MS; eight great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Hunt were held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM from Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Music was provided by Steven Phillips. Military Honors by National Guard. Interment was in Old Union Baptist Church cemetery. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of local arrangements.
