A resident of the Vancouver-Portland area since 1941, he was born July 10, 1915, in Clintwood , Va. He enjoyed dog racing.
Mr. Childress is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen, at home; a daughter, Toni L. Wright of Hillsboro, Ore.; two brothers, Dr. Cecil C. of Oakland, Calif., and Burns of Abingdon, Va.; two sisters, Mary French of Clintwood , Va., and Laura Russell of Hampton, Va.; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The casket will be open 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel.

Standford Childress, 78, Vancouver, Wash., died Saturday, March 11, 1995, in Emerald Terrance Nursing Center.
He was a native of Dickenson County.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Childress; one daughter, Toni Childress, Vancouver; two brothers, Dr. Cecil C. Childress, Oakland, Calif., and S. Burns Childress, Abingdon; two sisters, Mary Childress French of Clintwood and Laura Childress Russell of Virginia Beach.
