In the death of Father William Borders, Madison township has lost one of her oldest and best citizens.

Mr B was born in Pennsylvania in 1804, and in an early day emigrated to what was then the western wilds of Ohio, where he lived until 1848, when he emigrated to his home in Madison township, while the wild beasts and savage natives were yet his near neighbors.

He was then 44 years of age, and well does he deserve praise for the energy he displayed in undertaking at that age to hew a farm out of the solid mass of timber that then covered the beautiful farm upon which his after years were spent in comfort and ease. One by one the sturdy oak were made to bite the dust by the hand and will of this noble man, until this vast wilderness was changed into a fertile and productive prairie, enshrined with all the virtues of toil and labor, when it was handed to posterity; a reward well deserved by the children, whose high ambitions have always been to respond to a father’s wishes and to add to his comforts.

Father Borders died Wednesday Oct 23, 1878, aged 78 years and some months.

He has for many years been a devoted member of the Dunkard Church, and has always been an honest, upright, and highly-esteemed citizen. He leaves a wife and family of grown children, as well as a large circle of friends, to mourn his departure.
