Mr. Oglesby was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Crisp County, Ga. He was the son of the late John T. and Queen Elizabeth Carden Oglesby. He was a veteran of World War II, having served from Sept. 4, 1942, until Dec. 6, 1945. His decorations
include, World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Philippians Liberation Service Medal with one Bronze Star. Battles and campaigns were Bismark, Archipelago, Luzon, and New Guinea.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 5448. He was a big jokester,loved his family and a good game of poker. He was employed by Lane's Drug store,Swift Packing Company, and was co-owner of Fran's Kennel and Grooming.
He was preceded in death by brothers, J.D., Lester, Luster, and Ernest; sisters,Maggie, Elizabeth, Audrey, and Sue; grandson, Jason Robinson; son-in-law, Danny Robinson; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Wimmer Oglesby.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Frances Oglesby; son, Richard Oglesby;son and daughter-in-law, Thomas M. and Pat Oglesby; daughter, Brenda Oglesby Robinson; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas A. "Tommy" Oglesby will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, in the Warren Haisten Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday from noon until the service hour.
