Christopher Olsen Aamodt was the son of Ole Christiansen Aamodt and Oline Amundsdatter Korsbøen. He and Ingeborg Sørine Jensdatter emigrated in 1843 on the ship Johanna, along with his brothers, Amund and Peder, and settled SE Wisconsin. A family story tells that they eloped to America because Christopher's parents would not allow him to marry Ingeborg, who, the story goes, was a servant in their household. This story may well be true, as it was passed down through different branches of the family. (A powerful motivation for all three Aamodt brothers to emigrate was that their older brother Ole inherited the farm.) Christopher and Ingeborg married in Wisconsin on Christmas Eve of 1843 and lived in Ixonia Twsp. in Jefferson Co., for about 25 years. About 1867-68 they moved to near Spring Valley, Pierce Co., WI. (See the 1850 and 1860 Censuses for Ixonia Twsp, Jefferson Co., and the 1870 and 1880 Censuses for Gilman Twsp., Pierce Co., WI.) Soren Bache was a friend of Christopher's, and his diary, published under the title _A Chronicle of Old Muskego_ by the Norwegian-American Historical Ass'n., makes several references to Christopher and records his wedding.
Known children: Oluf, Mathilde Marie, Johan Martin, Carl Oscar, Ida Amalie, twins Gina Cecilie and Magrethe Julie, Ella Oline, Johan Kristian (John Christian).
