Mr. James Leonce Farragut, Sr. 83 of Moss Point, MS passed away January 24, 2011 in Pascagoula, MS. He was born August 24, 1927 in Jackson County, MS. James was a graduate of Moss Point High School, Perkingston Junior College, and the University of Mississippi. He joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. He married his high school sweetheart, Marguerite Brondum in 1948 with whom he shared fifty-one years unitl her death in 1999. His love for the home building business began while employed at City Lumber Co., Inc. in Pascagula. During this time he became a Charter Member of the Jackson County Home Builders Association and the Jackson County Board of Realtors. He later began in 1965 Farragut Realty, Inc. a successful homebuilding and realty business which he operated until his death. His passions where his family and tracking the Farragut heritage and especially his ties to George and Admiral David G. Farragut.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguertie Brondum Farragut, daughter Sandra Kay Farragut, mother, Claudia Dickens Farragut, father, Edward Fredrick Farragut, Sr., brother, Edward Fredrick Farragut, Jr. and sister, Fay Farragut Arban.
Survivors include his sons, James (Schewida) Farragut, Jr. and Rick (Glenda) Farragut; daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Oliphant and Renee (Johnny) Zelenka; grandchildren, Selena Austin, Shawn Oliphant, Lee Farragut, Jason Oliphant, Michael Farragut, Amy Tapper, Stephen Oliphant, Ryan Zelenka, Meagan Albritton, Nicholas Zelenka and Reid Zelenka; as well as nine great grandchildren. He also leaves sisters, Lyda Murphy, Joyce (Tinkey) Cook and Doris (Dedi) Montgomery; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27th at Holder-Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Everett Childress officiating. Entombment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Lee Farragut, Michael Farragut, Jason Oliphant, Stephen Oliphant, Ryan Zelenka and Nick Zelenka. Arrangements by Holder-Wells Funeral Home, Moss Point, MS.
