Paul Condon GRIFFITH, M.D.

Born 4/12/1919 in Omaha, Nebraska. Died peacefully at home, April 26, 2007. Raised in Omaha, Paul graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1943. Following an internship at St. Louis city hospital, he became a medical officer on the USS Salinas serving in the North Pacific during World War II. In 1946 he married his wife, Jean in Seattle and began a medical residency in Pathology at Gorgas Hospital in Panama Canal Zone. In 1948 he continued his residency at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City followed by a five year pathology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Paul returned to Seattle in 1955 to join the faculty of the University medical school where he enjoyed teaching the medical students. In 1959 he joined the Pathology partnership at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Seattle, WA, where he worked for over thirty years. During some of this period he served as chief of medical staff. His family remembers his performances as Santa Claus at the annual Cabrini Christmas party. Following retirement Paul continued part time consulting at Harborview Hospital in Seattle, WA. He was a Clinical Professor at the U of W Medical School. Paul is survived by his wife, Jean, his daughter, Laura Griffith of Seattle, his son, Dow Griffith of Vashon, WA, his sister, Adrienne Birge of Omaha, NE, his brother, James Griffith (Clara) of Denver, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank friend, Maria Paull, for Paul's care throughout this past year. Private services have been held.
