George Roberts arrived to Texas with his widowed father, Abram Roberts. Abram was registered in Stephen F. Austin’s colony. He probably reached Spring Creek in about 1826. A cattleman and businessman, within a very few years he established the settlement of New Kentucky.
The 1850 census indicates the George Roberts household with eight children: Abram, Hiram, Elizabeth, Melvira, Pamelia, Courtney, George and Susan. A ninth child was born about 1851, Mary; she appears on the 1860 census. His elder father, Abram Roberts, also appears on the same 1850 census page has a separate household (household of 1).
