Curtis R. Bashore, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at the age of 96. Curtis was the son of the late Calvin R. and Mary (Reedy) Bashore, and was predeceased by Esther (Roth) Bashore, his wife of 65 years, in November of 2008, as well as two brothers and two sisters. A successful farmer for 14 years, Curtis later went on to work for Wenger's Farm Machinery before becoming a partner at Swope and Bashore. He was an active member of Little Swatara Church of the Brethren and served on the 1963 Building Committee. Curtis was one of the founding members of the Berks County Soil Conservation District beginning in 1946 and received the prestigious Lifetime Service award. He was also a long-time member of the Mason's Lodge #52, the Lions Club, and the Grundsau Lodge. Curtis is survived by a son, Barry Bashore (wife Joanne) of Bethel, and five daughters: Carol Lane (husband Francis) of York, ME.; Donna Reber (husband John) of Wernersville; Connie Steinrock of Wyomissing; Karen Bashore (husband Bert) of Boca Raton, Fla.; and Cheryl Gates (husband Barry) of Annville. In addition, there are 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Little Swatara Church of the Brethren, 31 Rehrersburg Road, P.O. Box M., Bethel, PA 19507. Internment will be at Merkey's Cemetery, Bethel Twp. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. at the church. Hill Funeral Home, Rehrersburg, is handling arrangements.
