Shirley Maxine Kennedy, age 96, the only child of Goldie Pearl Goodwin, was born on February 21, 1927 in Peoria, Illinois and passed from this life at Oak Pointe of Rolla on December 31, 2023.

Shirley, at the age of 15, married Clarence Milton Kennedy at Hot Springs, Arkansas on July 31, 1942 before he was shipped out to fight as a Marine in World War II. Shirley stayed in California for a period of time before returning to Peoria awaiting his return at the end of the war. While living in Peoria, they had three daughters before moving to Dixon in 1952 where their fourth daughter was born.

Shirley accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at New Salem Baptist Church near Dixon and later was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dixon for many years until her health prevented her from attending. She served in many areas, wherever she was needed during that time.

Shirley was a loving wife, devoted to her husband and daughters and extended family. She enjoyed growing flowers which surrounded their home, sewing and crocheting and was an avid reader. She was a dental assistant at Ft. Leonard Wood until retiring in 1988 after more than 25 years and receiving several awards for her "Exceptional Performance". As of last year, she was still receiving Christmas cards from some of the dentists she had worked with.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Clarence Kennedy on February 3, 1977; her mother, Goldie DeMoss on October 10, 1971; a grandson, Robert Eugene Glawson on October 25, 1966; grandson, Clarence Jimmy Lee Goodwin on April 28, 1973; and a son-in-law, Edward York on July 3, 2019.

Those left to celebrate the life of Shirley include: her four daughters, Barbara Ann Montgomery, Tucson, Arizona; Carole Dianne York, Dixon; Linda Lee Howell (Phillip), Rolla and Phyllis Lynn Kennedy (Dave), Rockaway Beach; twelve grandchildren, Sherri Nixon (Rick), Teri Montgomery, Dustin Loyd, Nicole Kloeppel, Amber Barber (James), Kyzee Emmons (Cole), Klint Owens, Gary Pierce, Kenneth Frazee, Chad Frazee, Lori Simpson, and Charles Goodwin; twenty-one great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
