Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Wessels, 81, died Jan. 22, 2011, at her home in Dayton. Viewing will be 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Hubbard-Rogg Funeral Home followed by a 7 p.m. rosary. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton. Burial will follow at Dayton City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of choice.

Betty was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Greencreek, Idaho, to Henry and Elizabeth (Jansen) Schmidt. She graduated from Greencreek High School with the class of 1947. She received her nursing degree from St. Alphonsus Nursing School in Boise. On Oct. 11, 1952, she married Willie Wessels in Greencreek. He preceded her in death in 2006. Betty was in the nursing field for 50 years and worked in various hospitals in Cottonwood, Idaho, Lewiston and Dayton, where she was director of nurses. She came to the Dayton area in 1964 and retired in 1998. She enjoyed needle work, ceramics, crafts and gardening.

She is survived by three sons, Gary of Olympia, Alan of Dayton, Doug and wife Carolyn of Dayton; one daughter, Lori Stark and husband Jay of Boise; one brother, Louis Schmidt of Cottonwood, Idaho; 17 grandchildren, Roxanne Combs of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Maso Wessels-Galbreath of Olympia, Andrew Wessels of Fairbanks, Alaska, Tyrell Wessels of Walla Walla, Kellie Wessels of Dayton, Teah Stark and Raeh Stark of Boise, Dalton, Dillon, Kelly, Chris, Derek, Zachary, Tasha and her husband Adam, Anna and Tiffany Wessels all of Dayton, and Tonya Pendroy of Bremerton; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her much loved husband, Willie; one son, Joseph "Joe" Wessels; one daughter, Elizabeth "Lizann"; seven brothers and two sisters.
