Daniel Grant was born in Georgia. He was a Confederate Veteran a Private in Company I, 20th Georgia Infantry Toomb's Brigade, Hoods Division, Longstreets First Army Corp., Army of Northern Virginia General Robert E. Lee-Commanding. Daniel was in many major battles of the Army of Northern Virginia; 2nd Battle of Bull Run, Gains Mill, South Mountain, 7 Days Battle, Fredricksburg, but his 20th Georgia's most noted engagements were at the Burnside Bridge over Antietam Creek on September 17, 1862 when the 20th Georgia and Daniel Grant were on the far right wing of Longstreet's Corp. facing Yankee General Ambrose Burnside and the entire Federal 9th Corp. The 20th Georgia was blocking the bridge with only 550 men against 14,000 Yankees and held the bridge, Burnside withdrew. The other famous battle was during the 2nd day of Gettysburg when the 20th Georgia attacked Little Round Top with General John Bell Hood. Daniel went on to fight in many other battles and he is listed with the 20th Georgia having surrendered at Appomatox. Daniel Grant's name is on the Confederate soldiers list in the museum at Appomatox.
Daniel married Susan Caroline Scroggins in 1865 in Alabama. They were the parents of: Bama (m. Andrew Cherry), Betty Grant, Fred Grant, Will Grant (m. Mattie Boyd), George Alex Grant, Thomas White Grant (m. Bertie Elizabeth Delamar), John Lunsford Grant (m. Lillian Earl Browning), Charlie Grant (m. Myrtle Elizabeth Evans), Robert "Hatcher" Grant (m. Beatrice Garrett).
They raised their family on a farm near the town of Fairfield, Freestone County, Texas.
