G.P. Hart Dies, In Decatur 40 Years
George P. Hart, for more than 40 years a resident of Decatur, died in his room, 243 North Main street, Saturday afternoon at 2:55 o'clock. The body was removed to the undertaking rooms of Monson & Wilcox.

The death of George P. Hart was wholly unexpected by his friends. He was not quite well Thursday evening, but Friday until evening said he was feeling fine. Later he complained of severe pains in his head and his death occurred Saturday afternoon.

G.P. Hart was born in Baltimore, Md., March 18, 1852 [death cert states 3-11-1854], but had lived in Illinois for the major portion of his life, and had been in business in Decatur for more than forty years. His only surviving relative is his daughter, Mrs. James E. Kane [Maria Pearl Hart Kane]. He was a member of the Coeur de Leon lodge, Knights of Pythias.

Hart Funeral
Funeral services for George P. Hart were conducted in the chapel of Monson & Wilcox Monday afternoon by Rev. R. E. Henry and attended by many friends. In a body, a number of the members of Coeur de Leon lodge Knights of Pythias attended and had charge of the services at the grave. The singers were Mrs. Howard Helmick and Mrs. E. T. Kirkland. The floral offerings were carried by Misses Rose and Margaret Kerwin. The burial was in Fairlawn, the bearers being J. Weigand, Silas Watts, Fred Bernard, A. S. Smith, Thomas Nevin and John Schroll.

Place of birth in death notice of Balitmore, Md. is wrong. His mother was born in Baltimore, he was born in or near Brighton, Illinois. The 1860 and 1870 censuses of Jersey County, Illinois states he was born in Illinois and both censuses also give the family's Post Office as Brighton.

Death record info states he was born in Brighton, Illinois.

He was divorced from Arminda "Minnie" Dilliner in 1916. He had a daughter with a previous wife, Maria Pearl Hart Wilcox, who lived in Rockford, Illinois, at the time of his death.
