HERMISTON — Robert O. "Bob" Gabriel, 80, of Hermiston died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, in Hermiston. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 29 at 12 noon at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Private family burial will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Stanfield.
Mr. Gabriel was born March 19, 1930, in Stanfield to Edward Vern and Emma McFarland Gabriel. He was raised and attended school in Stanfield, graduating from Stanfield High School in 1948. He worked on a fish tender in Ketchikan, Alaska for two summers during high school. He married Alida Picanso in 1949 in Yakima, Wash., and they lived in Stanfield.
He drove a Synder's Bread truck for 25 years and then went to work for the Umatilla Electric Cooperative. He worked as a line equipment operator until retiring in 1992. He moved to Hermiston in 2004.
Mr. Gabriel is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alida Gabriel of Hermiston; daughter Kathy Rankin of Hermiston; sons Craig and Greg Gabriel, both of Stanfield; brother Ed Gabriel of Milbrae, Calif.; sisters Billie Mottice of Vacaville, Calif., and Dena Emery of Cove; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Kendall and Gail Gabriel; and sisters Virginia Refvem, Judy Brown, Lorna Alvarez, Claudia Conley and Verna Gabriel.
