MANUEL J. CHACON

Funeral services for Cortez resident, Manuel J. Chacon will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5 at the Evangel Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jeff McDonell officiating. Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75 will conduct Military Honors. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Evangel Assembly of God Church from 1 p.m. to service time.

Manuel was born October 19, 1919 in Monticello, Utah to Antonio and Eliza (Martinez) Chacon. He passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Friday, December 31, 2010 at the age of 91.

At a young age Manuel worked as a sheepherder. He served four years from 1942 to 1946 in the U.S. Army. In 1965 he moved to Moab, Utah where he worked for Atlas Minerals for 15 years. On April 27, 1996 Manuel married Mary Archuleta in Cortez. He was a member of the Evangel Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed time spent in the high country especially hunting and fishing. Manuel loved all of his children deeply.

Surviving Manuel are his beloved wife, Mary Chacon of Cortez; three stepsons, Joe Chacon of Moab, Utah, Johnny Chacon of Evanston, Ind. and Paul Martinez of Farmington, N.M.; three stepdaughters, Elumia Romero and husband, Jimmy of Fruita, Colo., Patsy Cordova and husband, Louis of Cortez, and Raylene Casias and husband, Paul of Magna, Utah; by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by his brother, Presiliano Chacon of Fruita, Colo. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents; and by his siblings, Jose Chacon, Cosme Chacon, Pacamio Chacon, and Jessie Duran.
