MEMORIAL TO A CONFEDERATE SOLDIER AND MEMBER OF ST. JOHN:

Pvt. William P. Artz the son of Rev. William Artz and Sarah Trexler. Enlisted 10 Jul 1861 at Fort Johnson, NC in Co B, 20th Infantry Regiment.
He was killed at Gettysburg on 1 Jul 1863 on the first day of battle. Exact location of grave is unknown but he is buried in the Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, VA where many graves of Confederate soldiers were relocated from Gettysburg.
He was the brother of Pvt. George V. Artz who was also in Co B, 20th NC and died in a Richmond VA hospital in October 1862. He may also be buried in Richmond VA.
