Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Newton P. and Emma Owens Slatten. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Korean War. He was a member of the Ware Shoals Masonic Lodge # 306 A.F.M., the Boyd Bobo Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a Shriner. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. Billy Slatten of Honea Path and Amos Dan Slatten of Summerville; a daughter, Sonja Medlock of Honea Path; a sister, Barbara Davis of Honea Path; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Dick and M.A. Slatten and a sister, Oneta Whitt.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Slatten, Rev. Hans Wunch, and Rev. Robert Emory officiating. Burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
