SHAWNEE, Okla. — Retired USAF CMSgt Franklin D. Rountree, of Shawnee, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Norman Veterans Center in Norman with Marilyn, Kristi, Gregory and Tammy by his side.

Frank was born March 15, 1933, the first child and only son of Ted B. and Mary L. (McGalliard) Rountree in Delight, Ark. As a child he attended schools in Pisagh and Bowen, Ark., then later in Wichita, and Yates Center, Kan. In 1951, while at Yates Center High School he was Tri Valley League winner in broad jump and medley relay. He graduated in 1952 from Yates Center High School.

Immediately upon high school graduation he and three classmates and friends enlisted in the Air Force. Frank served from August 1952 to August 1978. During his 26-year military career, his basic training was at F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, Wyo. After basic, he was stationed at Seoul, Korea, followed by Carswell AFB, Texas; K.I. Sawyer AFB, Mich.; Tachikawa AB, Japan; U-Tapao AF, Thailand; Offutt AFB, Neb.; RAF Bentwaters, Suffolk, England; Sheppard AFB, Texas. Military honors he received were Meritorious Service Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Good Conduct Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; Good Conduct Medal with Bronze, Silver and Gold Clasps; National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star; Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars; Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars; AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation; United Nations Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Korean War Medal (on 50th Anniversary of the Korean War in June 2000 from the President of the Republic of Korea).

Dec. 3, 1973, he married Marilyn (Reeves) Price. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary Dec. 3, 2010.

Frank retired from the Air Force at Sheppard AFB, in Wichita Falls, Texas, in August 1978. The family moved to Shawnee after his retirement. He was employed at Tinker AFB for a short time, then the Prague Post Office from September 1981 to December 1983. He returned to Tinker AFB in December 1983 and retired as an Inventory Management Specialist in March 1995.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his best friend Melvin Totten, his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Virgil and Fern Reeves, his nephew Brent Stockebrand, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was survived by his wife Marilyn, and beloved Chihuahua "Willow" of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Cherilyn and Keith Johnson, of Farmington, N.M.; son, Franklin D. Rountree, Jr., of Cleburne, Texas; step-daughter and step-son he raised, Kristi Clifton, of Shawnee, and Gregory Price and his sweetheart, Tammy Countryman, of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Dr. Lauren Cunningham and her husband, Jeffery Kaminski, of Las Cruces, N.M.; grandson Dennis Cunningham, Jr., and his girlfriend, Heccli, of Englewood, Colo.; three step-grandsons, Christopher and Levi Clifton, of Lufkin, Texas, and Matthew Price, of Bethel; and Tammy's two sons, Josh and Christopher Countryman, of Oklahoma City; a sister, Amy Sue Stockebrand, of Georgetown, Texas; a cousin who was like a brother, Johnnie Hooker, of Prairie Village, Kan., and former brother-in-law Ernie Stockebrand, of Georgetown, Texas.

The family will be at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. for visitation with friends and family. A funeral service with military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
